The Canine Companion Program was specifically designed to meet the needs of Senior Citizens and Veterans. Our program unites people with dogs that helps combat isolation and leads our most vulnerable population to greater independence, and confidence. A canine match provides invaluable companionship and opens new opportunities and possibilities to their human companion.
Behavior issues were the most frequently reported canine-related reason for relinquishment (23%), in 1998 and (54%) today.
Many of us consider our pets as family members. They are great at lending an ear and keeping us company. But pets offer more benefits to our health than simply being good companions. Pets that are trained to be therapy animals have been scientifically proven to provide physical and mental benefits to owners and patients.
